What is African Teak Wood?

Teak planted in Africa is referred to as African teak. It is indigenous to West Africa and esteemed for its great density and rot-resistance qualities.

Its growth period is between 15 and 35 years, which accounts for its high content of natural teak oils. African plantation teak wood is therefore less durable than teak from Indonesia or Burma. It has a pale brown hue. According to BFP, one of the best teak wood suppliers in India, the grain of the wood is widely dispersed, and it contains several sound knots.

The African teak is drier, free of oily resin, and much more similar to a traditional common wood than other forms of teak (like the Asian one), which implies that the wood does not preserve its water-repellent properties, and the same is observed by teak wood dealers in India.

Workability

Both hand and power tools may be used to easily sculpt African teak. Interlocking and uneven wood grain might be a problem. Due to the high density, mild blunting of cutting edges, and the production of dark stains (Which are made by the friction between wood and blade). Glues, dyes, and finishes work well with African Teak wood. Well-placed screws and nails are retained.

Sustainability

Illegal logging and poor enforcement of CITES restrictions are now the primary issues. African teak wood commerce has increased dramatically since 1948. All nations have seen unsustainable levels of extraction, and the habitat of the species has drastically diminished.
